South Sudan’s national oil company, NILEPET, and the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) met in Abu Dhabi today, putting capacity building and partnerships at the top of the agenda. NILEPET was in the UAE to meet investors in Dubai and Abu Dhabi and participated in the Invest in Africa Energy Reception hosted by the African Energy Chamber tonight.

The NILEPET delegation was led by Managing Director Bernard Makeny, who spoke with Jasper Peijs, ADNOC’s Vice President of Strategy and Business (Upstream).

During the meeting, ADNOC presented its strategic vision for sustainable, reliable energy production and its commitment to an inclusive energy transition. Makeny outlined NILEPET’s key role in South Sudan’s exploration and production sector and articulated its vision to increase production capacity and partner with the world’s top oil and gas producers to maximize the benefits of South Sudan’s oil resources.

ADNOC manages the world’s sixth-largest oil reserves and seventh-largest natural gas reserves, and aims to reach an oil production capacity of 5 million barrels per day by 2027. NILEPET, South Sudan’s national oil company, holds interests in all of the country’s exploration and production assets and has eight joint ventures with international partners aimed at bringing world-class technology and energy infrastructure to the country.

South Sudan is East Africa’s only major oil producer, and NILEPET is at the forefront of capacity-building efforts for the country’s people and companies. The company is undergoing reforms to improve productivity, professionalism and transparency, following in the footsteps of international role models such as ADNOC and other major oil companies.

Makeny and the NILEPET delegation, including Garang Garang Diing, South Sudanese Ambassador to the UAE; Choul Laam, NILEPET board member; and Power 2023 Conference (https://apo-opa.info/40koRl7), to be held in Juba from 14-16 June 2023, to continue the fruitful discussions.
