No cash counter, employees: UAE opens its first artificial intelligence store in the region-News

[ad_1]

Use the app on your phone to walk into this convenience store, pick up the items you want and go out without having to wait in line at the cashier to pay.

Welcome to the first artificial intelligence (AI) operated store in the region, which was opened by retail giant Carrefour in the Mall of the Emirates on Monday.

The Carrefour City+ convenience store was opened by Omar bin Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications, Alain Bejjani, CEO of Majid Al Futtaim Holding, and Hani Weiss, CEO of Majid Al Futtaim Retail. The store uses artificial intelligence technology to provide seamless and contactless shopping.

Customers must use the app on their mobile phones to access the store. After entering, every item picked up will be automatically added to the digital shopping basket. The purchase will be completed without any interaction of store staff.

The store stocks more than 1,300 items, including snacks, beverages, packaged foods and take-out meals, as well as basic necessities.

Nalla Karunanithy, Chief Digital Officer of Majid Al Futtaim Retail, said that one of the reasons for this innovative shopping experience is that customers do not need to queue at the checkout counter.

“You click in, put your phone in your pocket, choose whatever you want, and then go out. We have more than 1,300 items in the store. We will continue to monitor customer behavior and further work accordingly . This convenience store is designed for busy people to eat a quick bite before lunch or before going home,” he said, adding that the price is in line with the price of the convenience store.

The store has a sales area of more than 75 square meters and is equipped with 97 cameras. “The camera does two things. First, it tracks every product through artificial intelligence. Whenever it looks at a product, it tries to predict the product with 99% accuracy. Second, it tracks the movement of people and recognizes the product,” he Added.
