A father in Dubai faces trial for failing to obtain an identity document for his daughter. The girl did not register at the school due to the lack of necessary documents.
The Dubai Public Prosecutor’s Office said on Wednesday that the defendant has been transferred to the Family Misdemeanor Court.
After the criminal case was filed, the public prosecution agency charged his father with two misdemeanors: failing to obtain the daughter’s ID card; and for not allowing her to go to school for no reason.
According to the UAE’s Child Rights Law (Wadeema Law), both types of crimes are punishable.
Dubai Police revealed on Tuesday that of the 103 child abuse cases they handled last year, 17 were deprived of their identity documents and 14 were deprived of their right to education.
Major General Dr. Mohammad Abdullah Al Murr, Director of the Directorate General of Human Rights of the Dubai Police, once said: “All children must be provided with equal opportunities for an appropriate standard of living, medical services, education, basic services and facilities without any form of discrimination. UAE law protects children Free from all forms of negligence, exploitation, and physical and psychological abuse.”
