A massive gas explosion at a barbecue restaurant in northwest China has killed 31 people and injured seven others.
The explosion happened around 8:40 p.m. local time on Wednesday in Yinchan, the capital of the traditionally Muslim Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, as people gathered on the eve of the Dragon Boat Festival holiday.
Chinese newspaper The Paper quoted a woman as saying she was about 50m (164ft) away from the restaurant when she heard the explosion.
She said smoke was billowing from the restaurant and the air was heavy with the smell of gas.
She added that two attendants came out of the building after the blast and one of them immediately fell to the ground.
