Dubai: Now, expats can stay and work remotely in the United Arab Emirates on self-insurance thanks to the UAE’s virtual work visa valid for one year.
The major move for foreigners, believed to be a first in the region, will be rolled out from next month. The main attraction of the scheme is that those working for companies abroad can also stay in the UAE and work remotely.
The organization of the beneficiary does not need to be registered in the UAE or have an office in the country. These employees can stay in the UAE by opting for a work-from-home model.
It can be renewed after one year.
Small and medium-sized entrepreneurs and start-ups can use this visa. After the visa is approved, the beneficiary can bring his family with him.
Applicants must hold a passport valid for at least six months and valid health insurance covering their residence in the UAE. Additionally, individuals must have proof of employment with a valid one-year contract from their current employer and a minimum monthly salary of $5,000.
Applications should be made through the Federal Identification, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Administration website. Last March, the UAE government revised visa rules to allow foreign employees from anywhere in the world to stay and work remotely in the UAE. Holders of this telework visa can enjoy all the facilities offered to holders of other visa categories.
