Number of practicing physicians in Dubai grows 61% in 5 years – News

The latest medical tourism index ranks the emirate first in the MENA region and sixth in the world

Over the past five years, Dubai has seen a 61% increase in the number of practicing physicians and a 45% increase in private healthcare facilities.

According to official statistics for 2022 released by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA), the emirate has 4,482 private healthcare facilities and 55,208 licensed medical professionals.

The DHA’s forecast for 2023 and beyond estimates a 10-15% increase in medical professionals and 3-6% growth in facilities.

The latest Medical Tourism Index ranks Dubai first in the MENA region and sixth globally. The city ranks among the top five in the world for ‘quality of facilities and services’.

Dubai’s private healthcare facilities include 56 hospitals, 57 day surgery centres, 59 diagnostic centres, 21 centers for people of determination and 1,566 specialist outpatient clinics. The city also has 417 school clinics, 154 home health agencies, 9 fertility centers, 6 dialysis centers, 3 cord blood and stem cell centers, 1 gastrointestinal endoscopy center, 49 dental laboratories, 17 telemedicine centers, 4 patient transfer service centers, 57 facilities for traditional, complementary and alternative medicine, 1,353 pharmaceutical facilities, 17 pharmaceutical storage facilities and 410 optical centers.

Many private hospitals in the UAE are accredited by international bodies such as the Joint Commission International (JCI) and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

Before issuing a license for a facility, the DHA considers several important factors, including medical standards and processes, quality and variety of medical services, treatment methods, equipment and modern technology, to ensure professional accessibility for residents and medical tourists medical service.

The emirate is home to several leading research centers such as the Dubai Center for Genomics, which focuses on genetic research and personalized medicine.

Dubai’s healthcare infrastructure also includes a number of telemedicine services, enabling patients to consult doctors remotely. This increases the accessibility of healthcare services and is especially useful for people who live in remote areas or have limited mobility.

Marwan Al Mulla, CEO of DHA’s Health Regulatory Unit, said: “Simplification of processes, investment support, Dubai’s location, state-of-the-art infrastructure, and the emirate’s forward-thinking approach have facilitated high-quality multinational and specialist facilities in the city.”
