NWTN to build Abu Dhabi’s first electric vehicle assembly plant

Green mobility technology company NWTN will build an electric vehicle assembly plant in Abu Dhabi, it was announced on Tuesday.

Under the agreement, UAE-based NWTN plans to initially operate a 25,000-square-meter manufacturing, R&D, vehicle testing and logistics facility built by KIZAD with an annual capacity of 5,000-10,000 vehicles.

In the second phase, the North West plans to launch several new electric vehicle models and expand production capacity to 50,000 vehicles per year.

Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, Managing Director and Group CEO of AD Ports Group, said: “AD Ports Group is committed to advancing sustainable manufacturing and this important strategic partnership with KIZAD will support our wise leadership in enhancing industrial competitiveness while protecting the environment.” . The announcement, which will be Abu Dhabi’s first EV assembly facility, follows a recent regulatory update by the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy aimed at accelerating the development of EV infrastructure as part of Abu Dhabi’s Low Emission Vehicle Strategy. The new production facility is also in line with the UAE’s 2050 Net Zero Agenda.
