Barack Obama supported Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in the Canadian general election on Thursday, calling him an effective leader and rare support for a former U.S. presidential candidate in the Canadian general election.

Before Monday’s parliamentary elections, Trudeau was in a difficult re-election campaign with his Conservative rivals. Obama’s support helped Trudeau make progress in 2019.
Obama also supported Emmanuel Macron as president in the 2017 French election and warned British voters not to leave the European Union.
Trudeau had a close relationship with Obama when he was president.
The former president has long been welcomed by many Canadians.
