Oblu Xperience Ailafushi was chosen as the last stop of Danish traveler and adventurer Torbjørn C Pedersen (Thor), who has become the first person to visit every country in the world without using air travel at all.
The only uninterrupted journey that took him 10 years.
Thor’s project, Once Upon A Saga, started in Denmark in 2013 and has taken him across Europe, America, Africa, the Middle East, Asia and the Pacific by car, bus, train, boat and even on foot. He arrived in Malé, capital of the Maldives in the Indian Ocean, on a container ship for his final country, 203, after which he will return to Denmark – without flying, of course.
“Once Upon a Time was the most incredible adventure. Having said that, I’m absolutely ecstatic that it’s now successfully concluded — and I’m utterly exhausted!” Thor said. “I plan to visit every country in the world without flying because no one has ever done that before. I used to work in the logistics industry and I thought it would be a fun way to use my skills. I love a challenge , but I can safely say it was the biggest logistical challenge I’ve ever had.”
Thor originally expected it to last four years, but it ended up taking longer due to challenges such as visa issues, political unrest and the COVID-19 pandemic, which kept him in Hong Kong for two years when only a few country visit. In Hong Kong, he married his longtime girlfriend Le, who visited 26 times during the project, and she welcomed him in the Maldives.
Oblu Xperience Ailafushi as a resort for hospitality company Atmosphere Core hosted Danish travelers and close supporters to celebrate this colossal achievement. Oblu Xperience Ailafushi is a convenient and vibrant island getaway offering exhilarating activities, fun designs and the ultimate Fushi program to create a free-spirited Maldives vacation experience for the modern traveler, whether as a family, couple or friends .
“I am so grateful to everyone who has helped me in any way throughout this journey – my family, friends, strangers who have become friends, people who have contributed and companies who have helped, including Oblu Xperience Ailafushi at the last stop , and most importantly, my wife Le.
Thor aims to use the project to promote peace, understanding, and cultural exchange among nations, and to showcase the beauty and diversity of the world. He also works to raise awareness of global issues such as poverty, inequality and climate change, including through partnerships with the International Red Cross.
Funding for Once Upon A Saga comes from Thor’s own money, sponsorships from energy companies Ross Energy and GEOOP, and some crowdfunding. He is supported by several shipping companies including AP Moller-Maersk, MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company, Swire Shipping, Blue Water Shipping, Neptune Shipping Agency, Pacific International Lines, Royal Arctic Line and Columbia Shipmanagement. – trade arab news agency
