The promoters of Friday night’s Six.Five.Eight at Marketplace Entertainment Center Arts Ltd. (MECA) can boast of being an event that offers an iconic and premium Jamaican experience with international appeal after hosting an all-VIP edition last weekend with Offset and Cardi B are guests.
According to MECA director Michael Dawson, there were many cynics who doubted the agency and its team of promoters would be able to hold the event, which advertised Migos rapper Offset as the host.
“We’ve seen MECA deliver, even though people thought it was impossible. We’ve arranged it in a premium way, with top security, and I’m very pleased with how the night went,” Dawson told gleaners.
The car park at Market Place on Constant Spring Road was packed from 10pm onwards, with twice as many customers as cars, all walking in anticipation to catch a glimpse of the stars. Little do they know they have to wait four hours before they arrive.
Offset and Cardi B walk into MECA at 3 a.m. “stylishly late,” surrounded by stiff security and friends. Cardi B’s sister, Hennessy Carolina, was also there. The Six Five Eight party series is just one of the nightlife events that the international stars are taking part in, as they’re supposed to hit Margaritaville on Tuesday and then party Wednesday night at Romeich Entertainment’s hip-hop.
At the MECA event, the American rap superstar couple (who share daughter Kulture Kiari and one-year-old son Wave Set) heard music from Coppershot Sound and some of Jamaica’s top dancers, including Sara Bendii and Rebel. They make performers feel more valuable by throwing loads of cash onto their dance floors.
While Offset was the host of the night, many of the dancers were trying to get Cardi B’s attention, and likewise, club regulars took every opportunity to snap up Rappers danced or waved to them during the festivities.
“Our team was delighted to have Offset host our event, gaining international exposure. And also being able to provide a quality experience for his partner, Cardi B, and their guests. We definitely saw different talents here tonight, And look forward to continuing this trend,” said the co-founder of 658.
Coppershot selectors Marc Chin and DJ Cyclone paid close attention to the VIP requests, motivating them to “leggo di bird” and even having Cardi B’s waistline crushed to the floor.
Cardi B shared that she had a great time in Jamaica, they were happy to celebrate with Offset and she hopes to be back soon. There is no confirmed date for the couple’s departure from the island.
