Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of SCCI, and Sheikh Majid bin Sultan bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Head of Sharjah’s Department of Suburban and Village Affairs, as well as senior directors of the city’s federal and local government departments, attended the opening ceremony, as well as representatives of ministries and entities participating in the festival.
Al Owais highlighted that the long-awaited event has developed into a venue for industry lovers in Al Maleh, a true part of the Emirati heritage, known for its culinary industry as well as traditional and folk crafts.
“With each new edition, the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce, together with the Dibba Al Hisn Municipality and City Council and other partners, has made every effort to present an extraordinary event. This makes the festival the most unique heritage in the region and dedicated to One of the tourist exhibitions of the Al Maleh industry and one of the key initiatives to preserve this ancient heritage,” he said.
“Through this festival, we look forward to supporting companies and productive families who are still in traditional occupations, while also introducing the younger generations to their country’s heritage.”
Talib Abdullah Al Yahyai, ​​Director of Dibba Al Hisn Municipality, said: “The ninth edition of the festival saw impressive participation from various government departments in the city, in addition to shops specialising in the Al Maleh industry, as well as a number of fishermen and productive family.”
He noted that this year’s edition includes a variety of activities, folklore, traditions and marine melodies, as well as training sessions on how to prepare and cut Al Maleh fish.
During the four-day event, a group of researchers with expertise in marine heritage will participate in dialogue sessions. They will talk about issues related to the marine industry, seafaring crafts and traditional fishing tools.
Workshops and engagement activities will introduce visitors to the basics of making Al Maleh, including how to salt and wrap it. The festival welcomes visitors from 9 am to 9 pm daily.
