Olympics: Athletes drink alcohol, violating Covid-19 restrictions-News

[ad_1]

Officials at the Tokyo Olympics said they are investigating the incident.

Organizers of the Tokyo Olympics said they were investigating after a group of athletes were found drinking in the Olympic Village this week, which violated measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Tokyo 2020 Chief Executive Toshiro Muto said at a press conference that the athlete was arrested while drinking in the park of the athlete’s village on Friday night, adding that the police were there afterwards.

“We are investigating this matter. We will take appropriate measures based on our findings,” he said. He said the police were also at the scene, adding that it was not clear what actions they took, if any.

Muto did not provide detailed information on the number of athletes or nationalities. Organizers have previously stated that in order to prevent Covid-19, athletes can only drink in their own rooms and only if they are alone.

Drinking and partying are usually the characteristics of life in the Olympic Village, because the athletes relax after years of hard training after the competition.

However, with the 2020 Tokyo Olympics being held without spectators, and strict social distancing measures due to the pandemic, athletes have to be tested every day, and their movements are also restricted to “bubbles.”

Some people complain about boredom on social media.

In addition, the organizers said that so far, six people who participated in the Olympics have been disqualified for violating the rules established for the safe holding of the Olympics.
