On Women’s Day, 25 Indian expats in UAE receive education scholarships for their daughters

DUBAI: Twenty-five Indian expats in the UAE proudly received educational scholarships for their bright daughters at an event in Dubai on International Women’s Day on Wednesday.

The ‘Almirah Scholarship for Girls’ launched under the leadership of Keralite businesswoman Haseena Nishad was announced in January.

Scholarships worth Rs 2.5 million (approximately AED 112,000) were awarded to the daughters of expatriates working in different emirates of the UAE.

This time around, 25 girls who took part in their country’s high school public exams were awarded 100,000 rupees (approximately Dh5,000) each in scholarships.

The girls were selected from around a thousand applicants based on the grades they achieved in Year 11 and the financial status of their parents, who were working in the UAE.

Proud parents express their hopes and dreams for their daughter’s education.

“My granddaughter will study hard and if she gets a good job, all my problems will be solved,” said Khaled, who has been working in Abu Dhabi for the past 43 years.

Gigi, who works for a cleaning company in Sharjah, said: “My hope is on my daughter and I am ready to support her no matter how long it takes for her to get a good education.”

Unnikrishnan, another parent who works at the Ayurveda Center in Sharjah, said: “Because of my living environment, I cannot study, but I want my daughter to study and become a doctor.”

Speaking at the awards ceremony in Dubai, Haseena Nishad, MD, World Star Holding said: “Every parent who comes to receive the scholarship has a dream for their daughter. That’s why on this Women’s Day, the The Almirah Scholarship embodies the idea of ​​girls advancing through education.”

Nishad Hussain, chairman of the company and Haseena’s husband, said: “When we announced this scholarship, the response we got is the best proof that most expats have changed to let their daughter The idea of ​​getting married and sending them off. Giving them a better education for a better future.”
