Kingsport Carousel is a fully renovated 1956 Allen Herschell carousel located in the temperature controlled “Pal’s Roundhouse” at 350 Clinchfield St. Open Wednesday to Sunday 12:30pm to 5pm. All rides are $1.

The Tri-Cities Vinyl Collectors Shows will be held at the Double Tree Hilton, 211 Mockingbird Lane, Johnson City, on October 30 from 10 am to 4 pm. Admission is $2. Under the direction of Dr. Rodney Caldwell, Civic Chorale will present its first concert of the 2022-2023 season on October 16th. The concert, titled “Selected Choral Masterpieces,” will showcase choral movements from some of the major monuments. Choral repertoire and will end with the Hallelujah Choir in Handel’s Messiah. The historic Jonesboro Dance Society has moved to the University of Tusculum campus at 60 Greeneville Shiloh Road, Building 9, Niswonger Commons Old Coliseum. Anti-Prom Held every second and fourth Saturday from 7pm to 10:30pm, Anti-Prom is a family friendly, alcohol-, tobacco- and fragrance-free event. Beginner classes are held before each dance where basic movements are taught. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students, and $25 for families. Dress comfortably and wear soft-soled shoes. Under Eastman’s sponsorship, the Appalachian Resource Conservation and Development Council, in partnership with Kingsport Farmers Market and Healthy Kingsport, launched Farmacy Fit, a farmers’ market walk program. All are welcome to attend Wednesday and Saturday 9am-11am until the end of October. Participants will check in upon arrival at the farmers market and walk the one-mile walking route at their own pace. After the route is complete, participants will receive $4 in tokens to purchase fresh fruit and vegetables from participating suppliers.

The annual Shady Valley Cranberry Festival will take place on October 15th at 10am with a parade. The festival will last until 4pm at the Shady Valley Elementary School grounds with live music and a variety of food, craft, clothing and other vendors, children’s entertainment and indoor activities such as arrow and quilt displays. The festival will come rain or shine.

The gardening workshop series will continue on Saturday, October 15 from 9am-noon at the Community Room at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park in Elizabethton and will include fall garden projects, preparing for winter, and blackberry, raspberry, fruit trees Tips for pruning, blueberries, strawberries and late vegetables. Sponsored by Northeast Tennessee Master Gardeners and Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park, this free program will be hosted by Ben Hunter.

The Tri-Cities Civil War Roundtable will feature James Morgan’s presentation on the Battle of Ball Bluff on October 10 at 7 p.m. in the Eastman Employee Center, Room 219. Lectures are free and open to the public.

The Chester Inn State Historic Site and Museum in Jonesboro is free, but a $2 donation per visitor is recommended. The Historic Town Tour has also returned. Jonesboro’s History Walk is open every Saturday at 1 p.m. Admission is $5 and can be purchased at the museum.

The Wilderness Road Bunker at Natural Tunnel State Park is open every Saturday and Sunday from 2-4pm. The Bunker was built by John Anderson at the North Fork of the Holston River in the spring of 1775. See a replica of Anderson’s Bunker, where members of the Daniel Boone Wilderness Trail Society provide information about the building and the area’s history.

The Andrew Johnson National Historic Site in Greenville is open Wednesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and closed Monday and Tuesday. Andrew Johnson National Cemetery will remain open 7 days a week, from 8 am to dusk. Bays Mountain Park will offer a kayak stargazing program on October 4th, 6th and 13th from 7-8pm. Join park staff on a guided night sky hike in the middle of the reservoir. The fee for non-members is $5 per person. Participants must bring their own kayak, canoe or stand-up paddle board and paddle equipment, as well as a Type III personal flotation device. The Discovery Center is a science center for all ages, offering guests fun interactive programs and immersive STEM exhibits, experiences for the whole family, and exhibits and information about the Grey Fossil Site, an active fossil excavation traceable The site is 5 million years old. Tesla Experience Shows are offered at 10:30am, 12:30pm, 2:30pm and 4:30pm. Tickets are $2 per person with general admission. Kingsport’s Department of Parks and Recreation will be hosting a puppy-splashing bash at the Riverview Splash Pad (1101 Martin Luther King Blvd.) on October 8 from 10am-1pm.
