Pakistan again blocks TikTok for “inappropriate content”-News

[ad_1]

The app has a huge fan base in Pakistan, and many people use it to market and sell goods online.

The country’s telecommunications regulator stated that the popular TikTok video sharing app was blocked for the fourth time in Pakistan on Wednesday due to “inappropriate content”.

The website fought a series of legal battles with activists and authorities in the country and was shut down for two days under the order of the provincial court earlier this month.

Free speech advocates have long criticized the government’s strict censorship and control of Pakistan’s Internet and media.

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority said in a statement: “Because inappropriate content continues to exist on the platform and it has not been able to remove such content, action has been taken.”

The local TikTok representative did not immediately comment.

The app has a huge fan base in Pakistan, and many people use it to market and sell goods online.

But its critics say it promotes vulgar and “inappropriate content.”

In June of this year, TikTok stated that after receiving complaints from officials and ordinary users, it deleted more than 6 million videos available to Pakistani users in just three months.

Officials have previously asked YouTube to block content they consider offensive and prohibit the use of some dating apps.
