After opener Devin Conway hit a century in Karachi’s second day-night international, spinner Mohammad Nawaz helped Pakistan limit New Zealand to four wickets in 261 runs on Wednesday.
Nawaz finished 4-38 as New Zealand fell from 183 for 29.5 to 206-6, conceding five wickets for 23 in 40 overs.
Pakistan lead the three-match series 1-0 after winning the first match (also in Karachi) by six wickets on Monday.
New Zealand won the toss and bat, with a second wicket stand of 181 between Conway (101) and Kane Williamson (85) being lifted before they fell into Nawaz’s spin.
Fast bowler Naseem Shah (3-58) broke the stands when he dismissed Conway in the last ball of the 30th over.
Conway hit 13 boundaries and six of 92 balls, his 200th ball in one-day internationals.
His stand with Williamson was a record against Pakistan, beating the 159-game tally set by Williamson and Martin Guptill at Wellington in 2016.
Nawaz then started the havoc, dismissing Darryl Mitchell (five) and Tom Latham (two) in his next over, before bowling William cleanly in his next over msen.
Williamson sacked Mohammad Wasim’s 53 and 54 off 10 boundaries from 100 balls.
Glenn Phillips scored three, Michael Braswell had eight and Mitchell Santner was the last man out with 37.
