Pakistan ruled out New Zealand boycott at T20 Cricket World Cup | Cricket News

This decision angered PCB and sparked calls for boycotting the New Zealand team.

The Pakistan Cricket Committee stated that Pakistan will not boycott the Twenty20 World Cup match against New Zealand next month after the Black Hats were “disrespectful” and abruptly abandoned the tour due to safety concerns.

The cancellation is a huge setback for Pakistan. After the Sri Lankan team in Lahore suffered a terrorist attack in 2009 and the national football was suspended, Pakistan has been trying to resume the tour of foreign teams.

New Zealand declined to provide details of the security threats that forced them to cancel their trips on Friday, just as the first international one-day trip was planned to begin in Rawalpindi.

This decision angered the Pakistan Cricket Committee (PCB) and triggered a call to boycott the New Zealand team.

However, PCB CEO Wasim Khan said that such actions will not be taken.

“There is no problem if we don’t play New Zealand now,” Khan said in a virtual press conference.

“We have a responsibility to the fans, and we have to fulfill this responsibility. I think we just need to be very careful in terms of perspective. We don’t want to go that way of showing any political gestures and gestures, and any obvious protest.”

Pakistan and New Zealand will meet at the 2020 World Cup in Sharjah, UAE on October 26.

‘Political tension’

Khan said that the abandonment created “political tensions” in the relationship between PCB and New Zealand cricket, “because it is disrespectful to do so.”

Three ODI and five T20 series matches will be Black Caps’ first match in Pakistan in 18 years. Khan said that this withdrawal has exposed the inequality of world cricket.

“We have done everything for other countries. Our players sacrificed the 14-day quarantine period in New Zealand and went to New Zealand after the mosque was attacked,” Khan said of the Christchurch attack in March 2019.

“It’s easy to leave a country like Pakistan without any reason and without any dialogue, and this situation must stop.”

Khan said that due to logistical obstacles, attempts to persuade Sri Lanka and Bangladesh to visit the replacement series also failed.

Both England and Australia are currently planning to play in Pakistan later this year.

At the same time, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern stated that the New Zealand cricket team had “made the right decision” to withdraw from the tournament.

She told reporters on Sunday: “You will understand why we are unable to provide further information about the nature of the intelligence. You can only say that this is a direct threat and a credible threat.”
