Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan urges the Taliban to form an inclusive government-News

Prime Minister Imran Khan took the initiative after meeting with the leaders of Afghanistan’s neighboring countries

The Prime Minister of Pakistan stated that he has “initiated a dialogue” with the Taliban, urging them to form an inclusive government to ensure peace and stability not only in Afghanistan but also in the region.

Imran Khan said on Twitter on Saturday that he took the initiative after meeting with leaders of neighboring Afghanistan in Dushanbe, Tajikistan this week.

The Taliban announced an all-male interim government last week, which does not include women or members of the Afghan minority — which runs counter to their earlier promises of inclusiveness. Since then, they have also begun to restrict women’s rights and return to the strict rule they had when they took power in the 1990s.

Khan said that he had detailed discussions with the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon during the Dushanbe meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. The Economic and Security Group is composed of China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, India and Pakistan.

“After Dushanbe met with the leaders of Afghanistan’s neighboring countries, especially after a long discussion with the President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, I initiated a dialogue with the Taliban to establish An inclusive Afghan government that includes Tajiks, Hazaras and Uzbeks,” Khan said in a tweet.

He said: “After 40 years of conflict, this inclusiveness will ensure peace and stability in Afghanistan, which is not only in the interests of Afghanistan, but also in the interests of the region.”

Khan did not specify what form his dialogue would take, nor did he elaborate on his plans.
