Paul Sorvino was hailed as a “warrior” by his widow.
The legendary “Goodfellas” actor died of natural causes at a Florida clinic on July 25 at the age of 83, with his wife Didi describing her spouse as a true fighter who just wanted to make people happy.
Dee Dee spoke to America’s Closer Magazine about her late husband’s final days: “He was a warrior. He wanted to be that tough character forever…he fought to the end.
“[He]likes to make people happy. He’s all about love.”
At a memorial service at the Hollywood Museum earlier this week, Didi vowed to give him a special farewell.
She added: “Paul wants to go out like a star and that’s what he’s going to do. He just doesn’t want anyone to feel bad about him. He wants people to celebrate his life.”
Paul – best known for playing gangster Paoli Cicero in the iconic ’90s crime classic – is the father of actress Mira Sorvino, 54, who paid tribute to her “fantastic father” after her death.
The ‘Mighty Aphrodite’ star wrote: “My father the great Paul Sorvino has passed away. My heart is split – life with him of love, joy and wisdom is over .
“He is the best father. I love him so much. When you ascend, I will send you love in the stars.”
Dee Dee – who married in 2014 – said in her own statement: “Our hearts are broken and there will never be another Paul Sorvino, the love of my life and the greatest ever. One of the great performers…”
In addition to Mira, Paul is the father of Amanda and Michael and has five grandchildren.
