Pecha Kucha, a global presentation format that requires speakers to deliver 6 minutes and 40 seconds on stage with 20 slides backstage at 20 second intervals, is celebrating its 40th performance in Charleston.
Full disclosure: I will be part of the demo.
The local event was founded by Terry Fox, the creative and creative neighbouring agency in town, which also hosted Charleston Arts Festival. In this round, there will be 8 speakers or groups of speakers who will talk about their chosen topic while their design slides play in the background.
Topics can span quite a wide range, but I’ll imply that mine are inextricably linked to my role as an arts and entertainment reporter at The Post and Courier.
The 40th edition also includes Candice Patterson and Will Kiser, two local artists known as Dos Bandidos; Bintou Ndaw, a French and Senegalese chef; Jennifer Charzewski, principal of Liollio Architecture; Tina Heath-Schuttenberg and David Schuttenberg, co-author of Kwei Fei All; Chase Quinn, Curator of Education and Programs at the Gibbs Museum of Art; Sharon Graci and Rodney Lee Rogers, co-founders of Pure Theatre; and Gavin Shelton, director, editor, and photographer.
40th Pecha Kucha It will be held at the Charleston Music Hall on September 15th.Entry at 7:30pm, show starts at 8pm Tickets can be purchased online in advance charlestonmusichall.com/event/pechakucha-40. They are $12 in advance or $14 on the day of the show.
