james gunn For years, he’s straddled the line between Marvel and DC, Hollywood’s two superhero superpowers — ever since he was hired to write (and eventually direct) DC’s films suicide squad not long ago rehire Wrote and directed Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
But to be sure, Hurdle has been especially odd for Gunn in recent months — he was named co-chairman of DC Films (along with Peter Safran) in October, just as he was wrapping up guardian 3 A round-the-world Marvel media tour is about to start, right?
“It’s not surprising. It’s not surprising at all, not to me,” insisted Gunn in our new interview, which he also added guardian Star Chris Pratt. “I understand how it plays out, but I’m just busy because I’m working two jobs. But it’s not surprising.”
Gunn said the rivalry between Disney’s Marvel and Warner Bros.’ DC, the two superhero incubation studios, is overblown.
“People have this weird belief that Marvel and DC hate each other, or are somehow antagonistic. But that’s not true. I mean, listen, man, we have the same job. We want people to go Going to the cinema and seeing the movies. That’s the most important thing. I think we work together to do that. The better the Marvel movies, the better for DC movies. The better the DC movies, the better for Marvel movies.”
To draw a sports analogy, Gunn promoting Marvel movies while co-running DC isn’t like he’s managing the Yankees while playing for the Red Sox.
“There’s more than one winner,” he said. “There can be two winners, because it matters who goes to your movie and who likes your movie.”
Does this mean Pratt – the star everywhere guardians of jurassic world and super mario bros – Also begging to join DC?
“Catwoman doesn’t happen like he bugs me,” Gunn joked.
“It’s going to happen,” Pratt responded. “I have a leather mask.”
Where’s Batman?
“Yeah…that’s exactly what America and the rest of the world want, which is for me to play Batman. That’s fine. It’s time to finally have an attractive actor come,” Pratt said humbly say.
“You’d make a good Batman,” Gunn told him, “and that’s not a bad thing.”
