The body of Pakistan’s former military ruler, General Pervez Musharraf, arrived here on a special plane from Dubai on Monday, and he will be buried at the army barracks on Tuesday, where all arrangements have been finalized, officials said.

Musharraf, the initiator of the 1999 Kargil War and Pakistan’s last military ruler, died in Dubai on Sunday after a long illness.

The 79-year-old retired general has been living in the UAE since 2016 and is currently being treated for amyloidosis at the American Hospital in Dubai.

Musharraf’s wife Saba, son Bilal, daughter and other close relatives arrived on Air Malta special flight Airbus 319 arranged by the UAE authorities with flight number MLM 567.

Officials said the plane landed in the old terminal area of ​​Jinnah International Airport and the former president’s family and remains were taken to the Mariel camp under tight security.

The flight took off from Dubai’s Al Maktoum Airport at 7.30pm and arrived in Karachi at around 9.55pm.

“Arrangements have been made in Malilkanth and he will be buried at the old army cemetery in Karachi. Funeral prayers will be held at the Gulmohal Polo Ground in Malilkanth,” the official source said.

The press secretary of the All-Pakistan Muslim League, which was formed after Musharraf’s retirement, said all arrangements had been made.

“At 1.45pm, funeral prayers will be held at Malir Cantt’s polo field,” he said, adding that Musharraf will be laid to rest at the army cemetery.

The former military ruler’s body was due to arrive at Karachi airport on Monday afternoon, but the repatriation of Musharraf’s body was delayed due to delays in the plane and some other documents between the Pakistani mission in the UAE and the Pakistani government, as well as NoC procedures.

Musharraf’s mother is buried in Dubai and his father in Karachi.

Musharraf seized power after a bloodless military coup in October 1999 and overthrew the democratically elected government of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, and ruled Pakistan as chief executive and president until 2008.

The former president and Army chief has amyloidosis, a rare disease caused by the buildup of an abnormal protein called amyloid in organs and tissues throughout the body, according to his family.

Musharraf was born in New Delhi in 1943 and moved to Pakistan after partition in 1947. He was the last military dictator to rule Pakistan.
