Aaron Schwartzbaum, the contest’s producer, MC and host, says it’s more of a support group than anything else.
Philadelphia (WPVI) — Comedy wordplay fans in the Delaware Valley have a new show in town.
“It’s Always Puns in Philly” is an ongoing new stand-up comedy competition that pits the best and worst puns and stand-up comedians in the area against each other.
The winner gets all the glory or the groan.
It’s more of a support group, says Aaron Schwartzbaum, producer, MC and host of “It’s Always Punny.”
“The crowd that likes puns is less than other comedies. But the people here really enjoy it. They know what they’re getting into, I hope! It’s a really dedicated bunch of people and I’m really glad Helium made it Possibly,” Schwartzbaum said.
The event is at Helium Comedy Club Semi-regularly in Philadelphia. It attracts pun comedians, stand-up comedians, prop comics and word nerds from all over the country.
Alex Tallarico has been doing improv and stand-up comedy for about seven years. He said, “It’s important to know you’re making a pun. Moans are as important as laughter. We’re not just there for entertainment, it’s a feedback loop. When you tell a joke, no matter how good or bad it is, people laugh.” , you feel fine too.”
“It’s more important now than ever that people will laugh, and if people will do something as stupid and silly as a pun, that’s the way to go,” Tallarico added.
Schwarztbaum hopes to hold another show before spring 2023. For more information on the show or any other upcoming comedy events at Helium, Click here.
