His early years at Nuberg Engineering Limited, a leader in industrial gas and chemical process plants, shaped his leadership and business insights under the mentorship of his father, Mr. V.K. Gupta.
However, Siddhartha’s vision extended beyond the conventional. Inspired by hydrogen’s potential as a clean alternative to fossil fuels, he launched the Hydrogen Systems division at Nuberg. What started as an initiative soon grew into a standalone venture. By 2019, HGPL was born—a bold spin-off focused exclusively on advancing hydrogen’s role in achieving net-zero goals.

The idea for HGPL stemmed from Siddhartha’s fascination with hydrogen, the universe’s most abundant element and the Sun’s ultimate energy source. “During my college days, I was drawn to renewable energy,” Siddhartha recalls. “Hydrogen is not just abundant; it has the potential to solve the world’s energy needs sustainably.”
Siddhartha noticed significant gaps in knowledge about hydrogen—its benefits, safety, and handling—which led to industry apprehensions. Addressing these concerns became a cornerstone of HGPL’s mission, especially in championing Green Hydrogen solutions.

HGPL’s unique selling proposition lies in its holistic expertise. The company is the only Indian player offering a comprehensive portfolio of systems for hydrogen, nitrogen, and oxygen generation, purification, and recovery. They also specialize in air dryer systems.
“Our proprietary Green Hydrogen systems are a testament to our innovation,” Siddhartha shares. “We also made a significant impact during the COVID-19 era by manufacturing and supplying the highest number of medical oxygen systems in India.”

The journey was not without hurdles. “The Indian industry was initially reluctant to adopt hydrogen-based systems,” Siddhartha explains. “It took us four to five years of consistent education and advocacy to break this barrier.”
Despite roadblocks, Siddhartha’s determination remained unwavering. His belief in hydrogen’s transformative potential and his relentless focus on quality paved the way for HGPL’s success.
Milestones and Achievements
HGPL has come a long way since its inception. Today, the company boasts over 20 hydrogen generation and purification plants serving diverse sectors, including steel, chemicals, and pharmaceuticals. Additionally, they are recognized as pioneers in the Indian market for Green Hydrogen systems.
“The turning point was when we established ourselves as the only Indian company with 360-degree expertise in hydrogen, nitrogen, and oxygen systems,” Siddhartha proudly notes.
Building for the Future
HGPL’s ambitious roadmap reflects Siddhartha’s visionary leadership. Over the next five years, the company aims to manufacture its own electrolyzers and scale up its production of hydrogen systems to cater to all sizes and applications. Plans are also underway to streamline assembly lines for nitrogen and oxygen systems, ensuring efficient and scalable production.
What excites Siddhartha most is the growing global focus on Green Hydrogen. “Government initiatives and the world’s attention on hydrogen’s role in the energy transition are incredibly encouraging,” he shares.
