Prime Minister David Burt wants to strengthen the relationship between Bermuda and the United Arab Emirates, he told an investment conference in the Gulf state of Abu Dhabi today.
Mr. Burt was invited by UAE Minister of Economy, Abdullah Bin Touq Al Marri, to deliver the keynote speech on the second day of Investopia 2023 in Abu Dhabi.
He said: “It is an honor to be invited to participate in Investopia 2023 and to share Bermuda’s story with leaders in the region and to highlight the many similarities between our countries.
“This conference is good for raising the profile of investment opportunities in Bermuda in the region, whether it be insurance, renewable energy, hospitality or infrastructure.
“I look forward to deepening the relationship between the UAE and Bermuda.”

During the meeting, Mr. Burt met Ahmed Jasim Al Zaabi, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Global Markets, Thani Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, and Khaldoon Al Mubarak, Managing Director and CEO of state-owned Mubadala.
A government spokesman said Barclay Simmons, chairman of the Bermuda Public Fund Investment Committee, was joining him on the visit.
“On the second day of the two-day conference, the Prime Minister delivered a keynote speech entitled ‘Bermuda – The Pearl of the Atlantic’, in which he spoke of his desire to strengthen ties between Bermuda and the UAE, while emphasizing that both similarities between jurisdictions,” the spokesperson added.
