Nepal’s Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Daha Prachanda expanded his council of ministers on Friday.

Dahal, who is also head of the Maoist Center, has just 32 members in the House of Representatives and eight in the cabinet, while just four members of the factional-ridden Nepal Congress were sworn in under wraps Friday. Weeks after Prachanda’s government received a vote of confidence in Parliament, President Ram Chandra Puddle officiated at the swearing-in and secrecy ceremony of the new minister.

PM Dahal likely to make official visit to Newark delhi In mid-April, he retained the foreign ministry while assigning the energy ministry, an important area in the bilateral relationship, to his party colleague Shakti Basnet. However, the maximum size of the cabinet is 25 people, and there are still 7 members short.

With this change, Nepal now has two deputy prime ministers – Narayankaji Shrestha (Maoist Center) who is in charge of internal affairs, and Purna Bahadur Khadka (Nepalese Parliament) who also leads the Ministry of Defense.

Dahal asked the Nepali Congress to decide on the remaining four ministers, the source said.
