President Biden To Nominate A Black Woman To The Supreme Court

[ad_1]

Roommates, when people are trying to catch President Joe Biden’s attention, you know they’re going to use social media to let their voices be heard. Today “Black Woman” is trending as folks online call for President Joe Biden to keep his commitment to nominate the first Black woman to the Supreme Court after Justice Stephen Breyer announced his plans to retire.

Justice Breyer will be leaving the high court after two decades on the bench, and President Biden’s pick to replace him is anticipated to be a younger, fellow liberal who could serve on the court for years to come. If you recall, on the campaign trail , President Biden vowed to put a Black woman on the high court. Currently, a shortlist of potential nominees has been circulating in Washington before the public’s knowledge of Judge Breyer’s retirement plans, CNN reports. Now, all eyes are on the potential candidates.

Some of the candidates on the list include DC Circuit Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, California Supreme Court Justice Leondra Kruger, and South Carolina US District Court Judge J. Michelle Childs. As the conversation continued, US Congresswoman Cori Bush tweeted, “It is past time for a Black woman to be named to the Supreme Court.”

While President Biden’s choice is unclear, White House press secretary Jen Psaki spoke to reporters during a news briefing today about the topic. Jen said that President Biden “has stated and reiterated his commitment to nominating a Black woman to the Supreme Court and certainly stands by that.” At the time, she offered no additional details or statements about the news of Breyer’s retirement. Roommates, are you ready to see a Black woman hold a seat in the Supreme Court?
