Korea Electric Power Corporation. Chung Seung-il, president of KEPCO, inspected the construction site of the Barakah nuclear power plant in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on December 4 (local time). On the spot, he checked the current status of the construction project and discussed cooperation in the energy field with key officials of the UAE government.
According to KEPCO, Cheong visited the nuclear power plant from December 3 to 5. Units 1 and 2 of the plant are currently in commercial operation, and unit 3 is undergoing power increase tests after reaching its first criticality in September 2021. Unit 4 is undergoing final commissioning before fueling.
KEPCO expects Unit 3 to begin commercial operation sometime next year. One year after the commercial operation of Unit 2.
During his visit to the UAE, Zhong met Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Administrative Affairs, and Mohamed Al Hammadi, President of Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation. (ENEC).
“We will ensure the smooth completion of the UAE nuclear power plant project,” Zhang said, adding, “Using the success of the project as a stepping stone, we will actively promote the UK, Turkey, South Africa and Kenya.”
