President of Uzbekistan: Afghans need ‘good neighbors’ to help them fulfill their moral obligations

[ad_1]

Citing the “spirit of Samarkand” ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit on September 14-15, Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said the Afghan people needed “good neighbors” and said they To lend a helping hand to the “moral duty” and provide them with an effective way to overcome a multi-year crisis.

In an article published by The Indian Express, “Afghanistan, which has played a buffer role in historical confrontations between global and regional powers for centuries, should try to undertake a new peace mission linking Central and South Asia,” Mirziyoyev wrote.

Against this background, he said, the construction of the “Trans-Afghan Corridor” could become a symbol of such mutually beneficial cross-regional cooperation. “It is also important to understand that by implementing joint infrastructure projects, such as the Termez-Mazar-e Sharif-Kabul-Peshawar railway, we are not only addressing socio-economic, transport and communication issues, but also ensuring regional security ,” Mirziyoyev said in his article.

“I firmly believe that it is important and necessary for the SCO to share its success story with Afghanistan. This country is an integral part of the larger SCO space. The Afghan people need good neighbours and their support now more than ever. We have a moral obligation to lend a helping hand and provide countries with effective means to overcome years-long crises by promoting their socio-economic growth, integration into regional and global development processes,” he said.

“By bringing our positions closer together, we can jointly develop a new SCO agenda to build a more peaceful, stable and prosperous Afghanistan. Only in this way can we create a truly stable, sustainable, indivisible security SCO space,” he wrote.

“The SCO’s international appeal is based on its non-bloc status, openness, not targeting third countries or international organizations, equality and respect for the sovereignty of all participants, non-interference in internal affairs, and protection from political confrontation and unhealthy compete.”

“The SCO’s successful philosophy is to promote multi-faceted cooperation by ensuring regional security. In fact, the SCO should be an attraction that knows no boundaries in the name of peace, cooperation and progress,” he wrote.

“Uzbekistan’s presidency of the SCO has been a dynamic period, full of events and trends – a period of ‘historical rifts’ where one era ends and another begins – so far unpredictable and unknown,” he said. .”

“The modern system of international cooperation based on universal principles and norms is beginning to falter. One of the main reasons for this is a severe crisis of confidence at the global level, which in turn raises the risk of geopolitical confrontation and a reinvigorated group mindset. This This process of mutual alienation complicates the return of the world economy to its original trajectory and the restoration of global supply chains.”

mention war Ukraine“The ongoing armed conflict in the world has destabilized trade and investment flows and exacerbated the problem of ensuring food and energy security,” he said.
