Abu Dhabi, 26 September – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yakob has arrived in Abu Dhabi for a four-day working visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) starting today.

The plane carrying the Prime Minister and his delegation landed at Abu Dhabi International Airport at 8.25am (12.20pm Malaysian time).

He was received by Suhail Mohammed Al Mazrouei, UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Khalid Ghanim Mohammed Alghaith, UAE Ambassador to Malaysia, and Malaysian Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Kamaruddin Jafar.

Ismail Sabri will begin his stay today with a visit to Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc), with a focus on Adnoc’s potential cooperation with Petronas in oil and gas and renewable energy.

In the evening, the Prime Minister is scheduled to meet UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at the Presidential Palace in Abu Dhabi.

This will be the first meeting between the two leaders since Sheikh Mohammed was appointed as the UAE’s new president on May 14.

The discussions between the two leaders focused on exploring potential areas of cooperation to further strengthen the long-term and multifaceted cooperation between Malaysia and the UAE.

New focus areas include the digital economy, food security, digitalisation of education and renewable energy, as well as Malaysia’s participation in the five-year heritage plan.

The leaders of the two countries will also exchange views on various regional and international issues of common concern as well as ethnic issues.

On Tuesday, the Prime Minister is scheduled to witness the exchange of a memorandum of understanding between Ranhill Utilities and Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC – MASDAR.

In 2021, the UAE will be Malaysia’s largest trading partner, second largest export destination and second largest source of imports among West Asian countries.

Total trade between Malaysia and the UAE will increase by 7.9% to RM22.29 billion (US$5.38 billion) in 2021 from RM20.65 billion (US$4.93 billion) in 2020. — Bernama
