Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will film their appearance at King Charles’ coronation and turn it into some kind of financial extravaganza, a royal expert says.
Speaking to Fox Business, Neil Sean explains why the Duke and Duchess of Sussex want to attend this May’s coronation.
“They had to be brave, didn’t they? Did what they did. It took steel to show up and do it, but we’ve seen a lot of audacity with them,” he said.
The royal expert said: “You know, they don’t really care. The bottom line for them, in my opinion, is they’re willing to participate because it’s money.”
His comments came days after Harry and Meghan confirmed they had received an invitation to King Charles’ coronation, but did not say whether they would attend the event.
Mr Shorten said: “King Charles as a father would certainly love having his youngest son there but let me tell you there has been no personal conversation between Charles and Prince William for over months now up.
“It would make this coronation all about former royals and I think the consensus here is: the British public want it to be a day of celebration, a day of history, they don’t want it to turn into a third-rate soap opera.”
Earlier, reports in the UK claimed that Prince William had objected to his father’s decision to invite Meghan and Prince Harry to the coronation.
The Prince of Wales feared the couple would steal the event’s limelight, reports said.
However, King Charles sees Harry’s absence as more of a problem than his presence.
