Startups, private companies and research centers in the UAE have been invited to participate in the UAE Asteroid Belt Mission, the first-ever mission to explore and study seven asteroids in the main asteroid belt.

The UAE Space Agency sent out invitations to the recently concluded “Make it in the Emirates” forum in Abu Dhabi.

Salem Butti Salem Al Qubaisi said: “Driven by our continuous efforts to create a sustainable and inspiring environment for investors and entrepreneurs, we empower local private companies to participate in the UAE’s space sector and missions and help advance the sector development.”, Director General of the UAE Space Agency.

“(We) provide a solid investment environment and attractive incentives to promote the growth of local companies, upgrade their capabilities and create better global market access…Our aim is to provide Advanced innovation and technology companies create new avenues of growth,” he added.

The first stage

The UAE Asteroid Belt Mission will provide more than 30 opportunities for private companies to participate in the UAE’s most advanced and ambitious science mission to date.

These opportunities cover hardware development including electrical components, mechanical components and full system analysis as well as ground support equipment. There are several system-level opportunities for development in the design of sub-systems within ground control centers, spacecraft, and landers for deep space missions.

Workshops and training programs will also be held to train young talents and companies in the UAE in component assembly and space subsystem engineering.

Beyond Mars

The Emirates Mission to the Asteroid Belt is a national priority science program, a 13-year mission that includes 6 years of spacecraft development and 7 years of missions across the major asteroid belt beyond Mars, performing a series of close flybys for a unique Observations of the seven major asteroid belts.

The UAE spacecraft MBR Explorer will orbit Mars on a journey of 5 billion kilometers, performing gravity-assisted maneuvers around Venus, then Earth, and finally Mars to increase the speed of the spacecraft and support its flyby activities, its first The asteroid encounters take place in February 2030 at the asteroid Westerwald, followed by Chimaera and Rockox. Subsequent flybys will fly by the seventh asteroid, Justitia, by 2034.
