The Times Higher Education Mena Universities Summit, scheduled to take place in Abu Dhabi, will witness the participation of eminent education leaders from across the region. Hosted by NYU Abu Dhabi and in collaboration with Times Higher Education, this three-day event will be held from November 13 to 15.
Focusing on Innovation in Changing Times
Under the theme of ‘Innovation in times of change,’ the summit aims to align with NYUAD’s mission of empowering youth, conducting impactful research, and driving innovation for societal and environmental improvement, as emphasized by NYUAD Vice Chancellor Mariet Westermann. This edition of the summit will emphasize the pivotal role universities play in sustainability, the influence of artificial intelligence on teaching, and higher education’s long-term support for the COP agenda.
Diverse Speaker Lineup: Mena
The event will feature distinguished speakers, including cultural adviser Zaki Nusseibeh, Ahmed Dallal, president of The American University in Cairo, professor Dame Heather McGregor, provost at Heriot-Watt University Dubai, Toyin Tofade, president of Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, and Eric Xing, president of Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, alongside other regional education leaders.
A Return to the UAE
Nick Davis, President of Middle East and Africa for Times Higher Education, expressed his enthusiasm for bringing the summit back to the UAE after a gap since 2016. This year’s event will bring together a diverse group of delegates from the university, corporate, and government sectors. The summit will also mark the release of the third edition of the Arab University Rankings and announce the winners of the first-ever Times Higher Education Awards Mena 2023.
Fostering Innovation and Collaboration
Throughout the summit, higher education leaders will underscore the importance of innovation, adaptability, and robust collaboration at national and regional levels. These discussions will drive the incorporation of sustainability and equity across all dimensions of higher education institutions, underpinning their long-term strategies. In doing so, the summit will affirm the commitment of regional universities to positively influence the future, highlight their research initiatives, and showcase their graduates’ contributions towards the goals of COP28.
