A developer wants to build a huge sports and entertainment complex in front of the bay in Chula Vista.it will be built across the dock Gaylord Pacific Resort and Conference Center This is already under construction.
Frederick McDonald presented his idea to the Chula Vista City Council on Tuesday night. According to renderings of the development, it will include retail, a hotel, a marina and restaurants, an aquatics centre, youth sports fields, technical offices and a sports and entertainment complex.

MacDonald declined to refer to the large circular object in the middle of his proposed complex as a “stadium” or “arena.” He said Tuesday’s demo was just “rolling out a concept” and that everything was far from set in stone.
Four of the five Chula Vista City Councillors expressed their excitement and support for the development, which will be built primarily on the Port of San Diego property where the old South Bay Power Plant was once located in the Chula Vista Bay Overall South end of the plan. Assemblyman Steve Padilla was absent.

Last month, Gaylord Pacific broke ground to begin construction. The $1.35 billion resort will include 1,600 hotel rooms, a conference center, banquet halls, restaurants, sports bars and a lazy river. It is the basis for the Bayfront master plan, the largest development on the West Coast. New Gaylord hotels near Washington, D.C. and Denver have spurred incredible growth nearby as other developers look to capitalize on the resort’s popularity.
In 2007, the San Diego Chargers considered building a new NFL-level stadium on the same site, but plans for the Gaylord Hotel fell through. Chargers special counsel Mark Fabiani said at the time that losing Gaylord in front of the Bay was a blow to the team’s plans.
In July, RIDA Development and Gaylord Hotels began construction on Gaylord Pacific, which is expected to open in 2025.
