FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. — The Fort Myers Beach (FMB) location on Estero Boulevard is scheduled to reopen on May 25, a Publix spokesperson said Friday.
It’s been a busy week for FMB, with Moss Marina owner Ben Freeland telling Fox 4 about plans to redevelop the marina into an entertainment district.
“The character of the marina will change, but Moss Quay will stay. We plan to make it part of the Moss Marina at the Arch.”
Freeland said Arches Bayfront, which will be a 4.5-acre entertainment district, will bring some of that character, including additions such as multi-level restaurants, hotels and walkways.
Captain Jack, Owner Bay Star Charter, Says Rebuild will build other businesses like his own.
“We’d come in with all the fish and say, ‘You know what’s better than catching fish? Eat fresh fish. Take them to a restaurant over there and cook them,'” Captain Jack said.
Freeland said the terminal has been planning to move in that direction, but not this soon.
“Ian immediately changed everyone’s lives and time frames, so long-term plans became today’s plans,” Freeland said.
Freeland added that Fort Myers Beach has also grown stronger with additions and reopenings.
Freeland spoke with Fox 4 about the new building code, which Freeland says will help the island be more resilient to future storms.
“When you start now to really think about what needs to be done to really plan these types of events, you know, we’ve got to get to a certain height,” Freeland said.
Freeland said they would like to provide descriptive community input on what the public would like the project to do going forward.
