Queen Elizabeth has been buried in the King George VI Memorial Chapel at Windsor Castle.
The private service took place on Monday evening (09.19.22), where the monarch rested with her husband Prince Philip, who died in April 2021 at the age of 99.
“The Queen is buried with the Duke of Edinburgh at King George VI Memorial Chapel,” reads a statement on the royal family’s website.
The ceremony was led by Dean of Windsor, Right Reverend David Connor, and attended by the monarch’s next of kin.
The Queen’s coffin has been buried in the colours of the Queen’s Company Battalion of the Grenadier Guards – a version of the regiment’s royal standard – and placed on the coffin by King Charles at the end of the delivery service in Windsor.
Ahead of the ceremony, the royal family released details of the funeral on Twitter.
Next to a black-and-white photo of the Queen, her husband, her parents – George VI and the Queen Mother – and her sister Princess Margaret, the caption read: “Tonight at the King George VI Memorial Private funeral at Windsor Chapel.
“The Queen will rest in peace with her late husband the Duke of Edinburgh, her father King George VI, mother Queen Elizabeth’s mother and sister Princess Margaret.”
Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales also paid tribute to Britain’s longest-reigning monarch on social media.
Along with the black-and-white photos taken during the funeral, they heartily tweeted: “Goodbye Queen, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.”
