Queen Elizabeth’s state funeral will be held at Westminster Abbey on September 19.
The ceremony will likely be officiated by Dean of Westminster David Hoyle, and the sermon will be delivered by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby.
Senior British politicians and former prime ministers will be joined by members of the royal family at the ceremony.
Heads of state from around the world will also attend the ceremony at the historic church in central London.
The funeral, which has been designated a bank holiday in honour of Britain’s longest-reigning monarch, will represent the final stage of a national mourning period.
Buckingham Palace also confirmed that the Queen’s body will be laid for four days before the funeral.
The 96-year-old monarch, who died on Thursday (09.08.22), will be taken to Westminster Hall from Buckingham Palace on Wednesday (14.09.22), where the coffin will be raised on a platform and draped with the Royal Standard flag.
The Imperial Crown, Orb and Scepter will be placed on top of the coffin.
Buckingham Palace said in a statement: “On the deathbed, the public will have the opportunity to visit Westminster Hall to pay tribute to the Queen. On the morning of Monday, September 19, the deathbed will end and the coffin will be removed from Westminster. Palace parade to Westminster Abbey, where the state funeral will be held.
“Following the state funeral, the coffins will be paraded from Westminster Abbey to Wellington Arch. From Wellington Arch, the coffins will travel to Windsor, and once there, the state hearse will be paraded to St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. The long trek … and then there will be a commissioning ceremony at St. George’s Church.”
