Quinta Brunson joked that she ‘might slap him in the face’ after Jimmy Kimmel stole her Emmy.
Talk show host faces criticism after being dragged onto stage apparently passed out with Will Arnett for best writing in a comedy series and lays down long after ‘Abbott Elementary’ writer-actress comes out Accept her prize on the floor.
Will told the crowd that Jimmy passed out because it was “the 13th time in a row he’s lost his way and he just had that bony margarita.”
He tried to push his friend away to make room for the winner, and Quinta told him: “Jimmy, wake up. I won”.
But the 32-year-old star was forced to speak with Jimmy still lying down as he just gave a thumbs up and remained prone on stage.
Speaking backstage after accepting the gong, Quinta insisted the incident “did not bother” her at the time, but she may see the host’s behavior differently in the future.
She said: “I didn’t know I knew Jimmy Kimmel. That didn’t bother me. Honestly, Jimmy gave me my first late night blockbuster and he was one of the first people to see ‘Abbott Elementary’ one.
“He was the first person to message me on Instagram. He was so excited to be on ABC.
“I think in that moment, I was really happy to see Jimmy on it.
“I kind of think of him as one of the godfathers of comedy; I’m a big Will Arnett fan, so I’m immersed in this moment.
“I don’t know – maybe I’ll be mad at him tomorrow. I’ll be on his show on Wednesday, so I might slap him in the face. I don’t know. We’ll see what happens.”
