“Rage Against the Machine” bassist Tim Commerford has been privately battling prostate cancer.

The 54-year-old musician revealed his health to Spin magazine on Monday (12.12.22), two months after his band was forced to cancel a North American tour after frontman Zack de la Rocha, 52, tore his Achilles tendon .

Tim said: “I’ve been dealing with some really serious issues. Just before I was set to go on tour with Rage, I had my prostate removed and I ended up with prostate cancer.

“I’ve always been someone who takes pride in being healthy and taking care of myself. It depends on how lucky you are.”

The bassist added that the disease has left him paranoid about every change and sensation in his body, making him worry that everything could be the result of cancer.

Also referring to how he was getting through a serious sports injury, he said: “Whatever it was, it made me wonder if it happened because I had cancer. Prostate cancer is a very, very, very difficult disease.” Cancer because it has to do with your sexuality.

“It’s hard to come out of it, it’s a brutal psychological journey when you’re forced into that situation.

“The painful part of it, the physical pain after the surgery, I’ve never been in pain like this. I have metal plates in my head and cadaver parts in my body.

“I’ve done a lot of injury through sports and mountain biking and things like that, and I’ve always felt like I had a really high pain tolerance that brought me to my knees.

“After the pain went away, I still couldn’t really get out of bed, and even though I was exercising and doing sex, mentally, it hurt so badly. It was hard for me not to break down and get emotional.”
