The Entertainment Community Fund’s “Ragtime” one-night sold-out benefit show has raised more than $1 million to support its programming. The event was originally scheduled for 2020 but was put on hold due to the pandemic and will take place on Broadway at the Minskoff Theater on March 27, 2023.
All proceeds from the night, as well as net proceeds from merchandise sales, will support the fund, which helps entertainment professionals through emergency financial aid, workshops, support groups, mental health resources and more. (Items will still be available for purchase online and will benefit the fund.)
“The ‘Ragtime’ reunion concert was a gift for everyone involved: everyone on stage performing, working tirelessly backstage to make it happen; everyone in the audience, many of them have held their original tickets for over three years; and those of us in the entertainment industry, thank you all for your support and generosity, and the Fund will be able to help them,” said Ragtime cast member and Fund Chairman Brian Stowe Brian Stokes Mitchell said in a statement.
Original main cast members Audra McDonald, Mitchell and Peter Friedman reunite as Sarah, Coalhouse Walker Jr. and Tateh respectively. Leah Michele, who created the character of “Little Girl,” also delivered a eulogy for the deceased member of the “Ragtime” company. The concert is dedicated to their memory.
