Driving around and chatting while drinking karak is a routine that many fasting Muslims enthusiastically follow after doing the Tarawi prayer during the fasting month of Ramadan. Cheat out your routine and seek out your kebab at these great eateries in Sharjah to treat your taste buds to authentic Iranian kebabs. At AED 2.50 for chicken kebabs and AED 3 for lamb kebabs, these joints are certainly worth the money.

Calimeroo Café is one of Sharjah’s most famous kebab restaurants, located opposite the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on the outskirts of Halwan. Shortly after prayers in the Maghreb, a line of cars can be seen parked waiting to be served the popular chicken or roast lamb delicacy.

The kebabs, which were founded in the late 1970s, have a consistent taste. The chef who has been in the business for decades said that what keeps customers coming back is the “authentic taste”.

Instead of eating inside, customers wait in their cars parked outside to sample grilled delicacies. However, the dining area is perfect for a group of bachelors. If you plan to visit with your kids and family, it is recommended to dine in the car.

Before you order their specials, a plate of fresh salad is served while you wait for your succulent kebab. While you munch on your vegetables, a freshly baked taftoon (traditional Iranian cornbread) is next.

“We have some [customers] Come here every day; it’s become part of their daily routine,” says the chef.

Abdullah was one of many Emirati who gathered at the restaurant, which he said he passes by every day and has been for the past 30 years. “I [can’t] I’ll fall asleep if I don’t come here. Sometimes I don’t even eat the kebab here; I park for 10 minutes, drink some Gahwah, and leave,” Abdullah said.

“About 35 years ago, I went to London [where I had] Authentic Iranian Kebab.I’ve been looking for five years and can’t find it [find] that smell.on the way home from get off work [one day]I saw the store and since then, I’ve been coming here every day because it’s between my workplace and my home,” he said.

Serving for nearly 40 years

If you see a puff of smoke coming from a shop in the distance, that’s the next place you have to try – Abdul Noor Abdul Rahman Bakery, Al Sabkha, in the Al Riqa suburb of Sharjah, is the must-see restaurant. The joint does not have extensive dining, but does offer customers plenty of parking.

The grills line up 100 skewers at a time and sell thousands of skewers every day. “During Ramadan, we order more meat,” said Abdul Aziz, manager of the joint store.

“Our dining area is small, but most people prefer [food] leave.Boys who come here to eat prefer [do so] In the car or on our outdoor benches. On average, a group of four will order 25 skewers,” said the manager.

Regular customer Aftab Hassan says there are three ways to eat kebabs. “We can [eat] Whole, wrap the meat in small taftoons, or make kebabs out of the meat, [using] Vegetables and yogurt as toppings,” Hassan said.

Abdulaziz added that the restaurant was open until 3 a.m. and several customers were late, just in time for the closing time.
