The former Pakistan captain and famous cricket commentator Ramiz Raja will become the new chairman of the country’s cricket committee.
Prime Minister Imran Khan, as the patron of the Pakistan Cricket Committee, nominated Raja to the management committee on Friday after Ehsan Mani refused to accept a short-term extension after his three-year term expired this week.
Before the pre-nomination test opener, Khan met with Mani and Raja. The patron’s nominee traditionally gets elected chairman, as Mani was three years ago.
The vote is scheduled to be held in Lahore on September 13. PCB’s management committee consists of eight members, including its chief executive Wasim Khan.
Khan and Raja were teammates who defeated England in the 1992 World Cup final.
The 59-year-old Raja told reporters that when meeting with Khan, he emphasized the team’s unstable performance in international competitions.
Raja scored 2,833 points in 57 test matches and 5,841 points in 198 ODI matches, and then withdrew in 1997. He also served as the CEO of PCB, but established his reputation when he accepted comments and became the “Voice of Pakistan”. He also has a YouTube channel with over 1.5 million subscribers.
