Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan stepped down on Thursday, effective immediately, shortly before the country’s Cricket Committee (ACB) appointed him as the team to participate in the 2020 World Cup from October to November.
The 22-year-old legboarder said on social media that ACB had not consulted him. ACB had earlier appointed an 18-man team and two substitute players for the UAE and Oman match.
“As the captain and person in charge of the national team, I reserve the right to participate in the selection of the team,” Khan said on Twitter.
“The selection committee and ACB have not yet obtained my consent to the announced team…I decided to immediately resign as captain of the Afghanistan T20 team.”
