The United States has urged its citizens to reconsider traveling to Pakistan, especially its troubled provinces, due to terrorism and sectarian violence.
In a travel advisory issued on Thursday, the US State Department urged its citizens not to travel to Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), including the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), because of terrorism and kidnapping.
“Reconsider travel to Pakistan due to terrorism and sectarian violence. Risks have increased in some areas,” it said, raising the advisory level to level 3.
Level 3 travel warnings are issued when prolonged or severe conditions put travelers and tourists at risk, and non-essential travel to destinations should be avoided.

The bulletin also advises Americans not to travel near the Line of Control (LoC) due to the potential for terrorism and armed conflict.
It noted that terrorist groups continued to plan attacks in Pakistan and stated that the local history of terrorism and the extremists’ continued violent ideological aspirations have led to indiscriminate attacks on civilians as well as local military and police targets.
“Terrorists may strike with little or no warning, targeting transportation hubs, markets, shopping malls, military installations, airports, universities, tourist attractions, schools, hospitals, places of worship and government facilities. Terrorists in the past Has targeted U.S. diplomats and diplomatic facilities,” the announcement said.
Terrorist attacks continue across Pakistan, mostly in Balochistan and the KPK, including the former FATA. It said the massive terrorist attack had caused many casualties.
