Regal Entertainment Group, the largest movie theater chain in the United States, announced Thursday that it will reopen its former ArcLight Cinemas at The Paseo mall in downtown Pasadena.
ArcLight Cinemas and the Pacific Theaters chain announced a year ago this month that their theaters were closed due to the coronavirus pandemic and would never reopen.
Regal said it has entered into a lease agreement with Onni Group to operate the 14-screen theater.
Details of the grand opening, including promotional offers and Regal Paseo’s official opening date, will be announced soon, the company said.
“The Paseo development has long been an entertainment destination in Pasadena; however, since 2020 it has been missing one important element, a state-of-the-art theater,” said Mooky Greidinger, CEO of Regal’s parent company, Cineworld . “Working with our new partners in the Onni Group, we are proud to be the new operator of Regal Paseo and bring exciting upgrades to the destination’s upcoming theater experience.”
The reopening of the former ArcLight will bring a second “movie theater rescue” in Pasadena after arthouse movie chain Carl Laemmle opens in May 2022. Facing bankruptcy in Pasadena in 1938.
Regal said the new theater will open in late 2023. The company also said it will offer a variety of grand opening promotions, including discounted tickets and free popcorn.
