P&HCC Patriots players will be in attendance to celebrate Patrick and Henry Community College’s 60th Diamond Anniversary “DIAMOND DIVAS: A REALLY HAPPY VACATION REVIEW,” A mash-up of holiday favorites and diva anthems. Auditions will be held at the Walker Fine Arts Theatre on Thursdays from 4:30-7:30 pm. Sing bars 16-32 of an a cappella song (approximately 1 bar, 1 chorus). Shows will take place on November 17th, 18th, 25th and 16th at 7pm and November 19th at 2pm. The show will be directed by Devin Pendleton, Music Director Amber Scott and choreographers Jane Leizer and Mandy Gordon with Ray Hollingsworth Dance and Art Studios. Morgan Young will serve as stage manager.
FAHI Meet and Greet: The Fayette Area History Initiative will host a meet-and-greet for its new Executive Director, DeShanta Hairston, on Thursdays from 4-6pm. The event is designed to give residents the opportunity to meet Hairston while also viewing current exhibits.
Spencer Payne Center will be held Fall 2022 Saturday 10am to 2pm. It will feature games, activities for kids, vendors and more.cut the ribbon for Margaret Spencer Shackelford Thomas Pavilion and memorial brick offerings will be held at 10 a.m.
This Apple Dumpling Festival & 5K It will be held in downtown Stewart on October 22nd from 10am-4pm.
Mulberry Creek Professional Nursing and Assisted Living autumn festival It will be held at 300 and 400 Blue Ridge Street in Martinsville on October 29th from 10am-2pm. The event is open to the public and will be held with residents and staff. Jake Earles will perform from 1-2 pm; there will be Trunk-or-Treat and fresh popcorn. Mallory Dogz and Lucky Venable’s famous fried fish will be available. Vendors will sell crafts, fragrances, cosmetics and miscellaneous items. A large gift basket will be drawn. Building tours and career fairs are part of the event.
Bassett Moose Lodge 75th Anniversary Celebration It will take place on Saturday 29th October at the hotel at 62 Spring Garden Lane, Bassett. It will start at 8am, vendors will start selling hot dogs at 4pm and BBQ lunches will be on sale at 11am. Proceeds from the bake sale will be donated to Wayne Geely. Carnival games will be set for kids. NASCAR #1 Moose Car driver Ross Chastain will be there for meet and greet at 3:30pm steak dinner from 6pm and karaoke from 7-10pm Moose International CEO Scott Hart will be there .
Virginia Museum of Natural History shows Bonez & Booz Festival Saturday, October 29, 4-10pm This is the first-ever mix of science and fantasy, including special skeleton and fossil displays by museum scientists and Halloween-themed entertainment such as fire shows and magic Performance. There will also be a food truck and flashlight tour of the museum at 8:15pm. Prices range from free for children under 3, $5 for seniors and children 3-17 and $10 for children 18-59.
OktoberfestRain due to Hurricane Ian has been rescheduled to December 3rd from 11 am to 4 pm in Uptown Martinsville and renamed “Fall Into Winter Fest”. The original plan was to reschedule it to a later date in October, but the MCH Chamber of Commerce reports that there are not enough registered vendors to be able to do that.
This Virginia Arts Council‘ Executive Director Margaret Hancock and a number of VCA grantees will be at Piedmont Arts on Wednesdays from 10am to 11am for networking and conversation and invite the public to join them.

Jennifer Reis will teach “Mini Art Quilt Class” Nov. 5 at 1 p.m., ages 12 to adults, at Piedmont Arts. Workshops will cover basic and advanced hand-art quilting techniques, teaching non-traditional methods of quilting, appliqués, embroidery and sand mirrors, beading, and decorative objects. One Piedmont Festival Opening Reception‘ The new exhibit will be at the museum on Friday, November 4th from 5:30-7:30pm. Ann Nichols will play music and provide complimentary refreshments and wine. New exhibits will be “The Art of the Quilt,” “The Virginia Foothills Quilting Guild,” and cross-stitch samplers created by Marilyn Vaughn over the past three decades.
Naomi Hodge-Muse teaches one Bob Ross Technique Drawing Class At Piedmont Arts, the theme for November 10 at 9:30 am is the snowy mountains outside the lake; in December, another snowy mountain outside the lake, lined with trees. The fee is $80.
“Beautiful Broken Virginia” November 17th at 6:30pm is a unique photo tour, shot by photographer John Plashal. It is part of a statewide initiative for the Virginia Museum of Art. Admission is a suggested donation of $20.

Blues, Beer and Stews in Piedmontese Art It will be held at Piedmont Arts on Friday at 6pm. It will feature a fire pit, Brunswick stew, a cash bar serving craft beer and wine, and live music from the Griffin Haley band. Ticket price includes a Brunswick stew, cornbread, banana pudding and tea at the Hilton Wood-Cooking Grill. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and sit down. The City of Martinsville Public Schools Endowment Committee will have Gala 2022, “Havana Nights”, Saturday 7-11pm at Forest Park Country Club. It will feature music and dance, silent auctions and heavy hors d’oeuvres. Admission is $40 to $50. 1- $500 for reserved seating and sponsor-approved table sponsorship. Tickets to the evening and sweepstakes can be purchased at any city school and at the school board office at 746 Indian Trail.
Doe Run Farm in Patrick County (214 Marigold Lane, Ararat) has a sunflower maze until November 5th. Activities include mazes, hay carts, 30′ X 30′ jumps, swings, double slides, apple launchers, pumpkin bowling and cornholes. Upcoming projects from the Martinsville-Henry County Historical Society are Behind the Brothel: Early American Prostitution “April 1865: Danville, Martinsville, and the End of the Civil War” on October 16 and November 20, both at 3 p.m. A seasonal concert will be held on December 4th. For “Behind the Brothel,” Jan Mackell Collins, author and historian, will present a socially acceptable plan for why prostitution has been so important in the development of the United States and the West, providing details about the industry itself and Profiles of some of my favorite ladies. Wear pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
