In a global study of the Dubai Expo 2020, the vast majority of interviewees said that if mankind is to deal with the most pressing challenges, the world needs greater unity and collaboration, and must share innovation and expertise.

Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemy, Minister of State for International Cooperation and Director General of Expo 2020 Dubai, said: “As we learn to adapt to a changed world and rebuild from COVID-19, some things remain the same, for example, we want to reach each other , Between communities and across national borders, to promote progress through the exchange of knowledge, ideas and opinions. We are eager to see a new era of global cooperation that will enable us to meet the challenges of the real world in order to achieve sustainable prosperity for all.”

A survey of more than 22,000 people in 24 countries in 2021 explored emotions in a world that COVID-19 has irreversibly changed. It was conducted in collaboration with YouGov and was conducted after a similar study conducted in 2019 before the pandemic.

The number of respondents who are optimistic about their future on the opportunities, mobility and sustainability sub-themes of the Expo has increased from 60% in 2019 to 65%.

It’s worth noting that 86% of the interviewees said that international cooperation is essential to solving challenges such as the global health pandemic, while more than half said that sharing expertise and innovation, as well as cooperation between individuals and communities, is essential for overcoming human obstacles and Help build a more prosperous future.

She added: “We conducted this research to better understand that humans can shape a better future for all. The results are closely related to our own Expo plan, which is committed to important issues such as gender equality and women’s empowerment. The theme’s real life impacts; to inspire and empower our youth; and to use technology, innovation and creativity to pursue a cleaner, safer, and healthier tomorrow.”

When interviewees were asked to rank their future priorities, the opportunity to increase youth became the highest, followed by all meaningful participation in environmental laws and policies (environmental justice), and then international cooperation.

However, opinions differ from region to region: Interviewees in Africa, South America, and the Middle East rank increasing youth opportunities as the most important advancement, while in Australasia and North America, equal opportunities for women and girls are considered a priority. Interestingly, international cooperation is considered to be the most important future priority for European respondents.

Although only 32% of people said they were hopeful about humans’ ability to deal with climate change, three-fifths (61%) said they were optimistic about the world’s sustainable future.

Compared with other countries, Indonesia (82%), India (72%), UAE (72%) and Nigeria (69%) are more optimistic about the global sustainable future than Canada (42%) and Germany (36%). ), France (35%), the United Kingdom (30%) and Sweden (30%), echoing the results of the 2019 study.

Taking action to achieve a more sustainable future by integrating more environmentally friendly practices and supporting local companies is an important consideration for the interviewees.

People in Poland (54%), China (49%) and France (48%) are most likely to reduce the use of single-use plastics, ahead of other measures, such as powering their homes with renewable energy or adopting more environmentally conscious travel habits .

The survey explored a range of topics in depth, including health and wellness, sustainable travel, efficient food supply chains, and the development of urban and rural communities, all of which will be the focus of the 2020 Expo.

Under this large-scale event of the People and the Earth Plan, participating countries, organizations, partners and visitors of Expo 2020 will cooperate to discuss future-oriented solutions to the world’s biggest challenges.

Expo 2020 is one of the first global events held since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. It will be held from October 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022, inviting tourists from all over the world to create a new world together , A six-month celebration of human creativity, innovation, progress and culture.
