cascade— The City of Little Falls, Youth and Family Center and Think Local Little Falls join forces to spread holiday cheer with a weekend of holiday events, special programming and entertainment Friday, December 9 through Sunday, December 11 as Little Falls Rocks Christmas holiday.
Celebrations include:
Friday, December 9: The Celebration of Lights returns to Canal Square at 5:00 p.m. with the Christmas tree lighting ceremony attended by Benton Hall College President Joe Long, transforming Sterzinar Park into a winter wonderland of lights. There will be free horse-drawn carriage rides, outdoor musical entertainment, shopping, food and more. Guests can stop at The Café at Stone Mill for Wassail, a British Christmas drink, before heading to Rock Valley Brewing for Trivia Night, which runs well into the night.
Saturday 10 December: The fun continues Saturday morning at the Little Falls Youth & Family Center with the Red Nose Reindeer 5K Run presented by Rock City Runners. Bob Crister of DSP Images will also tour with Santa and provide professional photos for free. While visiting Santa, guests can also meet the Grinch, who will help Pause 4 All Paws sell cookies and scavenger hunts.
Chicks Along the Canal will be hosting their Merry Chicksmas Market at Little Falls First Presbyterian Church.
The Tuesday Night Knitters Group will be hosting two yarn pop-ups at the Main Street Mechantile and 586 East Main St. buildings, featuring merchandise for sale and demonstrations.
The Little Falls Public Library hosts a “Picky Blue Truck Christmas” reading for young children, where guests can pose for a photo with a blue pickup truck dressed up for the occasion. Valley Cinemas invites moviegoers to don their favorite pajamas for the “Polar Express Experience” at 5 p.m.
Free horse-drawn carriage tours are offered, offering historic downtown tours with pickup at the M&T Bank parking lot; the competitive Tipsy Server Race that takes over Main Street; a classic citywide charity soup festival; and nonprofit events. Ann Street Wine & Liquors gives you the chance to sample some warm spiced wines while stocking up for festive occasions.
Live music and entertainment took over Elk’s Lodge #42 and included the 6th grade bell choir, 5th grade all-county band, Emily Rozonkiewiecz’s piano students, Little Falls Middle School and High School band and vocals, and Edelweiss Schupplatters German dancers. There will also be a barbershop quartet, Full Circle and carols wandering downtown.
Other morning activities include the American Legion’s superhero pancake breakfast, cookie decorating sponsored by White Rose Bakery and a reindeer game at the community center Connected Community Schools, CVS’ HALO Love Tree and LF Ace Hardware’s Utica Zoommobile.
New this year is Creative Outpost’s free movie night at Rock City Center. There will be a screening of “Movie Dance” and an introduction by producer Hannah Straney.
Elks Lodge #42 hosts its annual holiday party themed “National Lampoon Christmas Holiday,” inviting guests to dress up as their favorite movie characters.
Paca Gardens, Designs by Shelly and Showcase Antiques of CNY will also be open all day. The LF Historical Society also offers outdoor exhibits, open by appointment.
Sunday 11 December: Holy Trinity Lutheran Church invites the public to their 2 p.m. holiday concert.
