Ron Howard’s Imagine Entertainment Lands Priority Deal With Amazon – IndieWire

Under the terms of the new agreement, Amazon Studios will have priority rights to narrative and documentary features produced by Imagine Entertainment and the first opportunity to receive distribution rights to the production company’s projects.

Last year, Amazon released two Imagine Entertainment projects on Prime Video: the Howard-directed “Thirteen Lives” and the documentary “Lucy and Desi,” From Amy Poehler. Next month, Amazon will release Imagine’s documentary “Judy Bloom Forever,” and will release future Imagine projects like “Candy Lane,” starring Eddie Murphy, and the spy action comedy “USPS.”

“Whether it’s a riveting drama like Thirteen Lives or a poignant documentary like Lucy and Desi, the team at Imagine Entertainment has an incredible talent for storytelling,” Amazon and Michael Jennifer Salk, head of May’s studio, said in a statement. “As we look forward to more exciting projects to come, we are honored to formalize our longstanding relationship and bring stronger, more compelling stories to audiences around the world.”

News of Imagine’s deal with Amazon comes just two years after the company signed a similar multi-year preferred deal with Apple. Since the deal was signed in 2021, Apple TV+ has premiered just three of the production house’s projects: a “Peanuts” 70th anniversary special, a Louis Armstrong documentary and TV series “Swagger”; Livanakis, Elizabeth Banks and Sarah Snook star in Imagine’s upcoming comedy “The Beanie Bubble.”
