Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has signed a strategic partnership agreement with Al-Futtaim Automotive to deploy 360 hybrid and electric vehicles for key meetings and events in Dubai over a three-year period.

Al-Futtaim Automotive will supply a total of 360 vehicles as part of the three-year deal. These include 250 electric cars, 100 hybrid cars and 10 electric buses. Al-Futtaim Automotive will also provide the necessary charging infrastructure, including 10 charging units capable of supplying direct current and alternating current. The deal also includes technical support for operational activities, electric vehicles and the utilization of advanced technologies specific to electric fleets.
The agreement is in line with the UAE’s ‘Dubai 2050 Zero Emissions Public Transport’ strategy, which complements Dubai’s D33 Economic Agenda and works towards the UAE’s national target of net zero emissions by 2050.

Al Futtaim Automotive, the RTA’s official mobility partner, will also help further build out the agency’s charging technology and infrastructure.

Earlier this year, Al-Futtaim Group established Al-Futtaim Electric Mobility Company, a subsidiary dedicated to providing and promoting sustainable mobility solutions in the UAE and across the Middle East. The company focuses on the distribution and sales of electric and hybrid vehicles, as well as the provision of charging infrastructure and related services.
The company said its aim is to accelerate the adoption of electric and hybrid vehicles in the region, supporting efforts to reduce its carbon footprint and create a more sustainable future. It is the exclusive distributor of Polestar and BYD electric vehicles in the UAE, and includes a range of models to suit different needs and budgets.
“Our goal is for NEVs to account for 50 percent of our car sales by 2030. This represents a significant acceleration, transitioning from 10 percent to 50 percent in less than seven years,” Willis said.

Al-Futtaim Automotive will supply 10 electric buses, including Volvo models, each equipped with smart technology. The buses will be equipped with touchscreens that provide drivers with real-time information on battery usage, door status and temperature, as well as alerts and messages on the heads-up display. They will use a unique geo-navigation system that informs the driver of the environment and the suitability of the road for the bus. The buses are equipped with a continuous monitoring system that tracks the driver’s condition and detects fatigue levels. Alerts are forwarded to the driver and logged for future analysis. This proactive approach aims to improve driver safety and reduce fatigue-related accidents.
